It wasn’t until a few minutes ago, long after completing this morning’s post, that I ran across a link to John Steele Gordon’s editorial in the Wall Street Journal - A Short Banking History of the United States.

“We are now in the midst of a major financial panic. This is not a unique occurrence in American history. Indeed, we’ve had one roughly every 20 years: in 1819, 1836, 1857, 1873, 1893, 1907, 1929, 1987 and now 2008.”

Of course, if you’re a long-time reader of this blog, you had to know I’d find time to link to an article that criticizes Thomas Jefferson (who, while brilliant, receives too much credit at times) and praises Alexander Hamilton (who, while also brilliant, doesn’t receive his due much of the time.
