Introducing the Captain
Posted on April 15th, 2007 by Jonathan Dalton
As you may have noticed, Tobey and I have been A.W.O.L. the last few days. There were a variety of contributing factors - completing my taxes after learning my accountant has moved to Ecuador or some such locale sans extradition, showing property, two Friday listing presentations (one successful, one not - more on this in a bit) and a full-day retreat or shabbaton with the board of my synagogue, Temple Gan Elohim in Glendale Arizona for whom I am the financial secretary.
Of course, the whirlwind that is my life has no bearing on my family inasmuch as my absence aids them in their pursuit of the latest episode of Wife Swap. I’m merely the ghost who wanders into the house occasionally on the way to the office in the back of our home, somewhat like the wandering haunts of Hogwarts.
And my place in the household pecking order suffered another blow this afternoon with the arrival of the little brother Tobey never knew he wanted, Captain Morgan. I maintain the name is a pure suck-up maneuver to appease me - or a reference to what I likely will be consuming in large doses late this evening when the Captain begs to walk the plank and go outside. Assuming he does go outside to visit the head (a nautical term, I may add.)
I’m not sure what Morgan brings to the table from a marketing standpoint but I can tell you he already has bonded with big brother Tobey. Morgan crawled into his brand new crate to take a nap and Tobey dutifully laid down in front, guarding the entrance.
We’ll come back to the listing stories and other news later (most likely after tonight’s listing appointment, my fourth in the last four days) but in the interim, if the good folks at Captain Morgan would like to bestow some proof-riddled booty on our dear Captain, I’ll be much obliged.

Captain Morgan is my drink. The similarities continue…although I still think you’re smarter.
Did I tell you that I got my first free lance writing gig?
Good for you! Where?
Local newspaper in Tampa/Riverview. No big deal, but it has a readership of 50K or so.
After years of telling my two daughters, no dog, no way, my wife and I broke down a few weeks ago. Our little guy’s name is AJ and he’s been pretty good so far. But after reading your post, I’m thinking we should have named him Guinness or something like that and I would have wanted to take him out all the time. Have fun with the new pup!
That’s one cute little doggie!
I had a cat named Cuervo once. I was in college. I drank too much of it. I don’t drink it any more.
